Election Day!

November 5th, 2013

Vote for Pete the Cat! Vote for the Bull Dog! Vote for Mr. Shapes! The children at Building Blocks Developmental Preschool learned a lesson in Citizenship today as they voted in the BBDPS Mascot Election.  The children spent the past week preparing posters and mounting their campaign in support of a favorite candidate. Signage adorned the hallways and classrooms and even staff and visitors gave opinions: “I think everyone should vote for Pete the Cat. The kids love his books.” “I think we should vote for the Beaver because beavers build and Building Blocks builds skills.”  Every member of the Building Blocks Family and Friends had the opportunity to vote. This is America after all!

The Parents Group ran the election complete with ballots, election booths, and even a politician. Yes, yes! Legislator John M. Kennedy, Jr. of the 12th Legislative District stopped by to shake a few hands and cast his vote. (Rumor has it he voted for the Bulldog!) It is wonderful to have the support of our local legislator as we look to teach our kids about the responsibilities of being good citizens.

The Parents’ Group donated the book Duck for President by Doreen Cronin to all the classes as a literary follow-up for today’s patriotic events. (Thanks again parents for a great job!!)

Early polling results favor the winner to be BB the Bookworm! Congratulations to Miss Lindsay’s class for running the winning campaign. And thank you to all our candidates for a job well done!
