Early Intervention Program
Building Blocks is proud to offer a wide array of early childhood learning opportunities for children ages birth to three years. All early intervention experiences are provided within the framework of a multidisciplinary team. It is the goal of this team to work collaboratively with families in order to build upon children's strengths as a means of enhancing their skills and overall level of independence. Furthermore, Building Blocks' personnel are respectful of the unique nature of each child and thus are always cognizant of creating educational opportunities for young children that are mindful of individual strengths and weaknesses as well as preferred learning styles. Presently available for all children within this age bracket are both parent-child groups and separation classes.
Mommy/Daddy & Me Classes - (for children ages 16-30 months)
- Tuesdays 9:15-10:15 A.M.
- Led by NYS certified teacher
- multi-sensory experiences designed to facilitate overall growth and development
- group & individual learning opportunities
Toddler Separation Classes - (for children ages 22-36 months)
- daily from 9:00-11:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M.
- Led by NYS certified teacher
- language enriched environment designed to facilitate growth in all five major areas of development
- classes consist of 10-12 toddlers
- integrated class composition
- small group and individual instruction
- gym and playground opportunities
Each of the aforementioned groups is currently available to eligible students through Suffolk County's Early Intervention Program, as well as to youngsters not currently exhibiting developmental delays through parent paid tuition.
For children with an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), Building Blocks offers not only center based groups, but likewise the vast array of individualized therapeutic services and evaluations:
- Special Instruction
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Physical and Occupational Therapy
- Psychological Services
All services are delivered by appropriately certified and/or licensed professionals who adhere to all NYS regulations and Suffolk County guidelines for best practice. Once evaluated and found eligible the youngster has an IFSP written that outlines the specific outcomes to be targeted as well as the EI services that the child is entitled to receive. This plan is then able to be implemented by staff from Building Blocks upon authorization from the county's Early Intervention Official Designee (EIOD). Individual services can be delivered at the family’s home, in a daycare setting, on-site at Building Blocks or anywhere in the community where the family believes that the needs of the youngster would be best served. Our staff is highly experienced in the field of early childhood special education and related service delivery. Regularly scheduled supervision is likewise provided to every staff member in order to ensure the highest quality service delivery. Early intervention at Building Blocks is viewed as a journey whereby we work together with parents and caregivers in order to help each and every child reach their maximum potential.
