Special Days at Preschool

March 2013

“It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, won’t you be my… won’t you be my.…, please won’t you be my neighbor?” Each year, in conjunction with the Community Helpers Unit the class is transformed into its very own town - complete with its own currency and a variety of stores and offices as parents lend their talents and expertise to be part of this children-inspired community. This year Officer Reina fingerprinted the children and taught them about ‘stranger danger’ and Mrs. Lamb honed their athleticism at her Karate Studio. The bakery was filled with tempting delights for purchase and for sampling and the Food Court offered healthy alternatives such as fresh fruit and drinks as well as crunchy snacks. The dentist’s office was opened for appointments as the children learned about the hazards of sweets and how to keep their teeth healthy. Some even received new hairdos at the salon. Lights were flashing as each child had their portrait taken at the photo studio. As we all know, nothing in life is free, and so the children practiced their Math skills as they “paid” for products and services with their own “money”. This event allowed children to meet and interact with real-life community helpers!!!
