SEIT AND RELATED SERVICES

Building Blocks Developmental Preschool not only offers center-based programs but also provides Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) Services throughout the community.  Provision of these services is approved through a child’s respective school district for a specified number of hours determined at your child’s Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meeting.  These services are provided by NYS licensed professionals who have experience and training in special education and early childhood development.  Services can be provided at various locations within the community including your home, at your child’s community nursery school, a local library or here at the center.  Determination of where services are to be provided must be discussed with your child’s CPSE. 

SEIT services can enhance your child’s potential by providing the additional support necessary to help your child achieve early developmental milestones. Providers of these services are experts in teaching pre-literacy skills, math concepts, language concepts, problem solving skills and socialization.  Although SEIT services provide for individual instruction, children receiving these services benefit from the expertise of the professional team at Building Blocks.  Specialists such as speech therapists, occupational therapists and school psychologists are available to consult with parents whenever the need arises.

For children who are approved for related speech services only, Building Blocks will provide speech/language therapy here at the school.  This service is provided according to a mutually agreed upon schedule.  The speech department here at Building Blocks is comprised of New York State Certified Speech Teachers and New York State Licensed Speech Pathologists. All of our speech pathologists are experienced in early childhood speech/language development and many are trained in PECS and PROMPT therapy techniques.  Building Blocks is also proud to be a teaching facility for local universities, lending our expertise to the development and education of graduate interns in this field.
